Kevin Stoller, CEO of Kay-twelve, a school furniture provider, and Board Chair of the Second Class Foundation, joined me to discuss the importance of reimagining learning spaces in the broader effort to transform education.
I am so glad the importance of the community conversation about what schools could and should look like was brought up. I continually offer resources to my community of Las Cruces NM but have not seen any traction take hold. Fear of change is huge. The challenges we face are that the best examples given are of educational systems that have totally collapse due to environmental devastation and not by systematic choice. David Osborne covered the beauty found in the rebuilding of the New Orleans school system after Katrina in "Reinventing America's Schools" but from what I am reading it is now falling back to legacy practices of the pre-hurricane system.
