I love the fact you are using music composition as an analogy. Last week as I was reading about the variety of engagement levels in Jenny Anderson's "The Disengaged Teen". I envisioned a symphony conductor and the power and control they maintain and saw it as what an in the front teacher desires. I then began to see it in the context of teaching and immediately Latin Jazz artist Cal Tjader's quartet began playing "Ritmo Caliente" in my head. To me that resembled the necessity of autonomy, creativity, agency and self direction needed for students to thrive. https://youtu.be/iS2DjO91Oho?si=Ah80T337DPv4zkyD
