Paying it Forward with Job Moves
With the publication of Job Moves just around the corner, I thought I’d share a small slice of some of the feelings I’ve had as we prepare to launch the book—in the hopes that it might inspire you to pay it forward by purchasing a copy for a friend seeking advice in their career or by donating Job Moves to public libraries.
As I’ve been working hand-in-hand with my coauthors, Ethan Bernstein and Bob Moesta, over the past few weeks preparing to launch the book, there have been times I’ve teared up or had to pinch myself to remind me how fortunate I am to get to do this work with two people who are such good friends and from whom I’m always learning. There’ve been other times when I’ve hopped on the phone with someone desperate for advice right now about their career trajectory—they couldn’t wait until Nov. 19th for the publication of the book!—and I’ve felt grateful that I could listen carefully, ask questions, and then share something relevant from the book to help them make progress.
Bob, Ethan, and I have all reflected on how amazing it’s been to live out Clay Christensen’s legacy in the process of writing this book. Clay, who was a mentor to all three of us, believed that the ultimate measure of his life wouldn’t be in the sheer number of people he reached or the money he made, but in the individuals he had been able to help.
That’s the work we’re seeking to do here. We have evidence that Job Moves can benefit everyone from those just starting out in their career to those further down the road.
That’s one reason why what Reed Hastings had to say after reading an early copy of Job Moves resonated. What Reed saw is a resource that can pay it forward—including to future generations of job switchers and young professionals.
For those of our friends and colleagues not currently considering a job change, many of you have asked what you can do for the launch of our book, Job Moves. One way is by using this resource to pay it forward for others.
That’s why we partnered with WorthyBooks, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that distributes free books, no-strings-attached, to public libraries around the country so that they may reach and support those who can benefit from Job Moves the most.
If you’d like to contribute, you can do so here: https://www.worthybooks.org/job-moves.
And thank you.
