It’s the topic du jour, with lots of hot takes about whether AI actually is or isn’t boosting productivity, changing the nature of jobs, and more.
In June, I moderated a panel discussion on the topic at an event that Western Governors University hosted in Boston. Joining me were industry leaders across technology, consulting, and higher education. And I’m thrilled to bring it to you all here as a special bonus episode of Future U. Check it out—and stay tuned as Jeff Selingo and I prepare for Season 9 of Future U. to launch in just a few weeks.
Also, I'll be hosting another conversation related to this topic for CGN Live. Titled "Is AI Killing the Entry-Level Job?", experts Joseph Fuller, Co-lead and Founder of Harvard University’s Project on the Workforce; Diane Tavenner, Co-founder & CEO of Futre.me, and Aneesh Raman, Chief Economic Opportunity Officer at LinkedIn, will be joining me to offer their takes on Thursday, August 14th at 7:30 pm ET. Curiosity, Empathy, and Joy at Work
Staying on topic, I joined Kathleen Carr on the SkillsWave podcast to talk about how individuals can stay ahead in a world where skills are constantly evolving. Drawing from our research in the bestselling book Job Moves, I opined on why upskilling is no longer a one-time activity but a continuous process tied closely to personal growth, energy, and purpose. I also got to talk about the concept of the “career balance sheet” from Chapter 5 in our book to help people make more informed decisions about which of their assets they decide to invest in and develop next.
And yes, we also got to talk about the role AI will play in shaping the future of work—and why those who learn to work with it, rather than fear it, will be best positioned to thrive. You can check it out here at Curiosity, Empathy and Joy at Work.
DisruptED
In a nice twist, I joined the DisruptED podcast, which Ron Stefanski hosts on MarketScale, alongside Jason Aubrey, Founder and CEO of Skilltrade. We talked outdated pathways, community partnerships, and some of our favorite emerging postsecondary learning opportunities for students.
You can listen to the show, “Building a Future-Ready Workforce: Disrupting Outdated Education with Employer-Driven, Community-Powered, Practical Skills Training,” here.
Quick idea. Big impact.
Finally, I’m thrilled to now offer short, customized video talks for your meetings that need something... more meaningful.
Check out the options for the talks, which range from “Building Teams that Employees Rehire Every Day” to “Surviving and Pioneering Disruptive Innovation” here:
