As the publication date for Job Moves: 9 Steps for Making Progress in Your Career fast approaches (November 19th!), I first have an update on my prior book, From Reopen to Reinvent.
I’m honored to announce that From Reopen to Reinvent hit in at number 7 on Porchlight’s September 2024 Nonfiction Bestsellers! Check out what else made the list here (and yes, Michelle Obama, Jon Haidt, David Rubenstein, and David Friedman are all on the list as well).
And on the topic of my upcoming book, Job Moves… here’s a snazzy 2-minute video from us three authors that shares a bit about it…
And here are some snapshots from when I received our first copy of the book (and my kids opened it)!
In just over a month it can be in all of your hands, too!!!
On that note, we received our first book review in the Library Journal here, which ended with this kicker:
VERDICT This title is far more than a typical job-search book. It’s a detailed and solid choice for readers wishing to make the most of their next job move.
I was also thrilled to join the Progressive Policy Institute’s Bruno Manno on their podcast “Radically Pragmatic” to talk about Job Moves. We spoke about some of the key themes, steps, and approaches in the book—and then asked the question: how does and should what we’ve learned in the book apply to K–12 schools? You can listen to our conclusions here.
The Seismic Impact of College Athletics
Lastly, if you think that following the latest news in college athletics is just for certain people (ahem, me) who make poor decisions and stay up late after a day of fasting on Yom Kippur to watch the end of the Ohio State-Oregon football game or who not-so-silently sulk after their alma mater loses to my wife’s alma mater in an overtime thriller, our latest Future U. podcast is here to show you why you’re wrong.
Jeff Selingo and I welcomed Matt Brown back to the show. Matt is the author and brains behind Extra Points, which, among other products, has a terrific newsletter that reports on the latest machinations in college athletics.
Matt did a great job explaining why college athletics impacts literally the operations of basically all of higher education—from D1 schools to D3—and how the current rapid changes in college athletics could have far-reaching impacts into everything from college sustainability to the underbelly of NIL Collectives to the Olympics.
The show even featured Jeff reframing the nominal “student athletes” as “athlete students.” It got spicy in other words.
Check it all out here, at The Seismic Impact of College Athletics.
Thanks as always for reading, writing, and listening.
